In Maungdaw Township, under the control of the Arakan Army (AA), a civilian was reportedly killed in a shooting carried out by the ARSA terror group on December 4 at approximately 6:00 PM, according to local residents.
In Maungdaw Township, near Aung Zaya village, ARSA militants reportedly shot and killed 50-year-old U Kyaw Thar Aung from Aung Zaya village with multiple gunshots, according to local villagers.
“In the evening, near Aung Zaya village, ARSA militants shot and killed a civilian. This incident happened close to the area where ARSA had previously attacked a passenger vehicle, killing five people. ARSA has been targeting and terrorizing civilians,” a woman from Aung Zaya village told Border News Agency.
On July 31, near Aung Zaya village in Maungdaw Township, ARSA militants attacked a civilian vehicle traveling on the main road, killing five civilians and injuring two others.
In the ongoing battle in Maungdaw Township, where the Arakan Army (AA) is conducting an offensive to take full control, civilians report being targeted by Myanmar junta forces, ARSA, RSO, ARA militants, and armed Muslims who have completed military training. These groups are involved in abductions and killings of civilians, according to local residents.
In Maungdaw District, violent acts committed by armed militants claiming to be Rohingya have reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 30 civilians and injuries to nearly 50 others. There are also reports of missing persons, according to local residents in Maungdaw Township.
Although the Arakan Army (AA) has taken control of nearly all of Maungdaw District and established administrative mechanisms under the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government, local residents report that they have not yet been able to prevent violent attacks by armed militants claiming to be Rohingya, who continue to target and kill civilians.
“If civilians are frequently being killed in that area, it’s hard to feel safe anywhere else. If the armed militants are not eradicated, the local residents will remain in fear. How can we even move around safely? The Arakan Army needs to take more effective action,” a civilian from Maungdaw Township told Border News Agency.
In Maungdaw District, thousands of armed militants claiming to be Rohingya are reportedly living among the Muslim population and within Muslim villages, carrying out acts of violence. Additionally, Muslims armed and trained by the junta are also said to be engaging in violent activities, according to sources within the Muslim people.
In addition, the Arakan Army (AA) has reportedly been frequently targeted by ambushes, while there are claims that those militants have collaborated with junta forces to carry out violent activities in Maungdaw District, according to sources within the Muslim people.
Furthermore, some Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, including those in refugee camps, along with some so-called activists living abroad, are reportedly supporting and assisting in carrying out violent activities to undermine the administrative efforts of the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government in Maungdaw District, according to sources within the Rohingya refugees.
The militants claiming to be Rohingya in Maungdaw District are reportedly making preparations to carry out large-scale armed attacks. Meanwhile, in Bangladesh’s Rohingya refugee camps, gatherings, recruitment of new members, and collection of funds are said to be taking place, according to refugees.
