Arakan Army (AA) Captures Battalion 22 Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Aung Nay Myo, Dead

The Arakan Army (AA) announced that they had captured Lieutenant Colonel Aung Nay Myo, the commander of Battalion 22, near the fishing camp at Shwe Zar Kappa Kaung Chaung in Maungdaw Township on December 17 at around 12 noon.

The Arakan Army (AA) stated that the battalion commander died from excessive bleeding after stepping on a landmine they had planted.

The Arakan Army (AA) stated that the battalion commander was fleeing from Border Guard Police Battalion 5, and they seized approximately 800 lakh kyat in cash, along with some gold nuggets and jewelry, from Lieutenant Colonel Aung Nay Myo.

The Arakan Army (AA) completely captured Border Guard Police Battalion 5 on December 8 at 9:30 a.m.

On December 8, the Arakan Army (AA) also captured Brigadier General Thurein Tun, the commander of Operation Command Headquarters 15 from Buthidaung, and his group alive west of Shwe Taung Village in Maungdaw Township.

The Arakan Army (AA) stated that the junta officers attempted to escape to Bangladesh with the help of Muslims, but they were successfully surrounded and captured in time by AA forces.

Local residents in Maungdaw reported that while some junta troops from Border Guard Police Battalion 5 managed to flee, others were captured by the Arakan Army (AA).
