The Arakan Army (AA) captured the Western Regional Military Headquarters today, December 20, where the China-Myanmar gas pipeline passes through. Following this, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar is set to visit Madae Island in Kyaukphyu Township, where Chinese projects are located, tomorrow, December 21, according to diplomatic sources.
The Arakan Army (AA) has surrounded Kyaukphyu Township, where Chinese projects are located, leading to escalating military tensions between the junta forces and the AA, according to local residents in Kyaukphyu.
The Arakan Army (AA) has officially declared its intention to fully control the entire Arakan region. It has already captured and taken control of all towns surrounding Kyaukphyu, where Chinese projects are located.
The natural gas pipeline passing through Kyaukphyu Township runs 54 miles and 59 furlongs, from Panae Chaing Village to Kan Myint Kan Village in Ann Township. Observers emphasize its critical importance to Chinese projects.
As a result, diplomatic sources suggest that the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar may make an urgent visit to areas where Chinese projects are located.
“The Chinese Ambassador will visit Madae Island tomorrow, but the exact purpose is unclear,” a senior diplomatic source told Border News Agency.
Maday Island in Kyaukphyu Township hosts major Chinese projects, including the Shwe natural gas project, oil terminals, and oil and gas pipelines. These pipelines pass through Madae Island and extend all the way to China.
In addition to the gas pipelines, deep-sea ports are being developed on Maday Island and Rambre Island.
The Arakan Army (AA) has launched an offensive to fully capture Gwa Township, and the only remaining towns to be seized in this operation are Kyaukphyu, Sittwe, and Man Aung.
