In Nay Pyi Taw, the administrative capital of the military junta, the number of earthquake casualties is extremely high, and the 1,000-bed public hospital is reportedly running out of space for injured patients, according to healthcare workers.

Despite thousands of civilians being injured in Nay Pyi Taw, there is a severe shortage of hospital beds and medical staff, leaving no space to accommodate the wounded, healthcare workers say.

Reports from sources close to the military junta indicate that thousands of people, including civilians, government staff, and junta troops, have been injured in Nay Pyi Taw due to the earthquake.

On March 28, Myanmar was struck by a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake.

The disaster resulted in the deaths and injuries of many people, including children, women, and Buddhist monks, while numerous buildings were severely damaged or destroyed.

As a result, the military junta’s National Disaster Management Committee declared a state of emergency on March 28 for Mandalay Region, Sagaing Region, Magway Region, Bago Region, northeastern Shan State, and Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory.

The earthquake centered 12 miles to the north-east of Mandalay city has caused a state of emergency to be declared in six districts.

According to the military junta, as of March 28, in Mandalay Region, 694 people have been confirmed dead, 1,670 have been injured, and 68 are missing due to the earthquake.

However, the detailed list of casualties, injuries, and missing individuals is still being compiled, according to the authorities.

Residents in Mandalay Region have reported discovering over a thousand bodies of those who have died, with some believing the death toll could exceed a thousand.

In Mandalay city, citizens have stated that search and rescue operations have been unable to continue for those trapped, and there is a lack of assistance and support for rescue efforts.

The earthquake has caused widespread destruction, including damage to roads, bridges, hospitals, religious buildings, homes, and government offices.

In response to the earthquake, emergency rescue teams from China, Russia, and India have arrived to assist with the relief efforts.

The earthquake is estimated to have caused at least tens of thousands of deaths and injuries, with numbers possibly reaching nearly one hundred thousand, according to international estimates.
