The so-called Rohingya armed groups are preparing to carry out terrorist attacks in the Maungdaw area, which is currently under the control of the Arakan Army (AA), according to confirmations from Rohingya refugees and the Muslim community.

Those armed extremist groups are engaging in terrorist activities along the Arakan-Bangladesh border, increasing their recruitment and mobilization efforts. According to Rohingya refugees, cross-border terrorist attacks are likely to escalate.

These armed groups, reportedly recruiting new members from refugee camps in Bangladesh and conducting military training, are expected to launch attacks in Maungdaw, Buthidaung, and Rathedaung townships.

A Rohingya refugee from the Kutupalong camp told Border News Agency, “They are calling all the young men from the camps and providing military training. There are a lot of them along the border. Their strength has increased recently. Reports have been circulating that they would launch attacks before Eid. If they don’t attack this month, a major offensive could happen during the rainy season.”

The Rohingya armed militants are mainly operating from bases along the Arakan-Bangladesh border, particularly on the Bangladesh side. According to Rohingya refugees, Bangladeshi authorities have not effectively taken measures to suppress these terrorist activities.

On March 29, Rohingya armed militants ambushed and killed two Arakan Army (AA) soldiers on the Taung Pyo-Kyaing Chaung road, seizing their firearms.
Additionally, on the same day, four local civilians were shot dead, and their bodies were abandoned along the Mayu mountain, Badagah mountain pass road in Maungdaw Township, according to local sources.

Although the Arakan Army (AA) has taken control of the Arakan-Bangladesh border, it has not yet achieved full control, allowing Rohingya armed militants to continue carrying out cross-border terrorist activities, according to local residents.

While the AA has announced plans to crack down on terrorist groups in Maungdaw, locals say that these militants are still actively operating in the region.
