Sittwe, June 9.
The Myanmar junta is replenishing food supplies for Sittwe Township, which remains under its control.
Although the junta is replenishing food supplies to Sittwe Township from Yangon using large cargo ships, civilians are struggling with the high cost of goods, making it difficult for them to afford basic necessities.
According to official statements, the MV Ye Tun Aung 1 vessel transported 899.7 tons of rice and basic food supplies to Sittwe, while the MV Aung Yadanar Thiri 1 vessel delivered 1,150 tons of rice and other essential goods.
In addition, the MV Aung Yadanar Htay vessel reportedly carried 1,105 tons of rice, cooking oil, and other basic food items, while the MV Min Khant Phyo vessel transported 337 tons of rice and essential goods.
Those food supplies are being unloaded at the general-use port in Sittwe and then transported to junta officials and military bases, according to reports.
Civilians in Sittwe, including those trapped in the town and internally displaced persons (IDPs), are reportedly facing severe hunger, with some already dying from a lack of food and nutrition, according to local residents.
