Ponnakyun, June 18
Due to continuous heavy rainfall and flooding in Rakhine, over two hundred displaced households in Ponnakyun Township are in urgent need of emergency assistance.
The rising water level of the Kaladan River has submerged low-lying areas, roads, villages, and displacement camps.
As a result, the flood-affected internally displaced households – over two hundred in total – are in urgent need of food supplies and proper shelter.
These displaced people have been living in makeshift tents along the banks of the Kaladan River and are frequently exposed to natural disasters.
In the first week of June, heavy rainfall also caused river levels to rise, leading to flooding in townships such as Ponnakyun, Kyauktaw, and Mrauk-U.
