A Rohingya man from Camp 11, Block B-11, was abducted and brutally beaten by unknown assailants while on his way to Cox’s Bazar in search of daily labor work. The incident, which took place yesterday, highlights the growing insecurity faced by Rohingya refugees attempting to earn a living outside the camps.
According to sources, the victim was stopped and taken away forcefully before reaching his destination. His captors subjected him to severe physical abuse before demanding a ransom for his release. His family, fearing for his life, managed to pay 70,000 Taka to secure his freedom.
The victim, described as a hardworking and kind man, relies solely on his daily earnings to support his five young children. His abduction is part of a worrying pattern of violence targeting Rohingya refugees, many of whom venture outside the camps in search of work due to limited opportunities within the settlements.
Community members have expressed deep concern over the rising number of such incidents and are urging authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety of Rohingya refugees. Many have also called for heightened vigilance and caution when traveling outside the camps, as abductions and extortion cases continue to pose a severe threat to their security.
As the humanitarian crisis persists, rights groups and activists stress the need for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable refugees and prevent further violence against the Rohingya community in Bangladesh.
