The military council has announced that, as of March 28, the earthquake in Mandalay Region has resulted in 694 deaths, 1,670 injuries, and 68 missing persons.
However, they stated that they are still in the process of collecting detailed records of the deceased, injured, and missing individuals.
Meanwhile, local civilians in Mandalay Region claim to have discovered over a thousand dead bodies and believe the actual death toll could be in the thousands.
Residents of Mandalay city report that those trapped in the affected areas have yet to receive any rescue efforts, and there are no available rescuers to provide assistance.
On March 28, Myanmar experienced a massive earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7.
As a result of the earthquake, many people, including children, women, and Buddhist monks, were killed or injured, while numerous buildings were also destroyed.
As a result, the military junta’s National Disaster Management Committee declared a state of emergency on March 28 for Mandalay Region, Sagaing Region, Magway Region, Bago Region, northeastern Shan State, and Nay Pyi Taw Territory.
The powerful earthquake struck 12 miles northeast of Mandalay city, leading to the emergency declaration across six regions.
Authorities claim they are conducting rapid assessments of the damage and are urgently carrying out rescue and relief operations.
They stated that efforts will be made to ensure humanitarian assistance reaches those affected by the earthquake.
The disaster has caused destruction to roads, bridges, hospitals, religious buildings, residential homes, and government offices.
For earthquake relief efforts, emergency aid has arrived from China, Russia, and India.
