Naypyidaw, April 2.

Residents of Naypyidaw report that despite frequent group armed robberies occurring after the earthquake, the military council’s forces have failed to provide security or prevent the incidents.

In Naypyidaw’s Wunna Theiddi Ward, at Acre 4000, a group armed robbery took place at 10:20 PM on April 2, according to reports.

“Because of the earthquake, people staying in open fields were targeted by group armed robberies. Even though we reported it to the military and requested security, not even the police showed up. Government employees have started losing trust in the authorities,” a junta official in Naypyidaw told Border News Agency.

On March 28, Myanmar experienced a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7, causing casualties and injuries across six regions. Many houses and buildings were also damaged.

Due to the impact of the earthquake, most areas in Naypyidaw were severely damaged, including residential houses, government staff housing, and departmental buildings.

Following this disaster, government employees report that group armed robberies have worsened in Naypyidaw, where the military coup leaders reside and operate.

On April 30, a group of armed robbers targeted the Thazin 6 Dormitory for unmarried female staff, looting gold and cash, according to junta employees.

Additionally, group armed robberies have occurred in Acre 2000, Bala Theiddi Ward, and more than 20,000 apartment buildings, according to junta employees.

As a result, government staff report that Naypyidaw, where the military coup leaders reside and operate, has become lawless and insecure, with rampant group armed robberies.

“The responsible authorities are not providing any assistance at all. What’s worse is that they can’t even ensure security. There is no protection whatsoever. We are living in constant fear and anxiety,” a junta employee in Naypyidaw told Border News Agency.

The powerful earthquake was centered 12 miles northeast of Mandalay and caused the collapse and destruction of historical buildings in Sagaing and Mandalay regions.

As a result, the coup council’s National Disaster Management Committee declared a state of emergency on March 28 for Mandalay, Sagaing, Magway, Bago regions, eastern and northern Shan State, and the Naypyidaw Union Territory.
