During a recent high-level meeting with the Chinese Communist Party (CPC), Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami leaders proposed the formation of an independent Arakan state to resolve the long-standing Rohingya crisis.

The proposal was made during a visit by a 14-member delegation of Islamic party leaders from Bangladesh, including senior Jamaat figures, who were invited to China by the CPC. The delegation, led by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, discussed a range of issues with Chinese officials, notably focusing on the plight of the Rohingya refugees living in camps in Bangladesh.

According to the delegation, the establishment of an independent Arakan state could offer a permanent solution for the displaced Rohingya people, enabling their safe and dignified repatriation from Bangladesh to their homeland.

During the meeting, Jamaat leaders emphasized China’s significant influence over Myanmar and urged the Chinese government to play a stronger role in mediating the crisis. They suggested that an independent Arakan state, where the Rohingya could live with full rights and protections, would bring lasting peace to the region.

The visit marks a historic moment, as it is the first time that Islamic political party leaders from Bangladesh have been formally invited by the Chinese Communist Party. Discussions during the trip also touched on strengthening Bangladesh-China relations, increasing Chinese investments, and enhancing cooperation across sectors like education and development.

The Chinese side, led by senior CPC officials, expressed interest in maintaining friendly ties with all major political parties in Bangladesh and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leaders are expected to return to Bangladesh in early December after completing a series of engagements in China.
