During the battle for Kyaukphru town, which is currently under assault by the Arakan Army (AA), a tactical commander from the junta forces was killed on May 27.

He was Colonel Kyaw Myo Aung, aged 45, the tactical commander of the 113th Tactical Operations Command under the No. 11 Military Operations Command based in Inntain, Yangon Region.

He had been operating from the No. 32 Security Police Battalion base in Kyaukphru town, and during the battle that occurred on May 27, ground military sources confirmed that he was killed after being shot in the right chest by a sniper from the Arakan Army (AA).

Additionally, during the battle at Min Tat Taung in Kyaukphru Township on May 26, Captain Aung Pyo Oo (nicknamed “Diesel”), a company commander from the No. 32 Security Police Battalion based in Kyaukphru, was reportedly shot by a sniper from the Arakan Army (AA) and is currently receiving medical treatment, according to ground military sources.

According to the funeral invitation issued by the family, Colonel Kyaw Myo Aung, aged 45, who served as the tactical commander of Unit 113 under the No. 11 Light Infantry Division based in Inntine, Yangon Region, was buried on May 29 at the Mingaladon Military Cemetery in Yangon. A merit-sharing ceremony (Swan Thuat Tayar Nar) is scheduled to be held tomorrow, May 31.

Only three townships – Sittwe, Kyaukphru, and Manaung – remain to be seized by the Arakan Army (AA), and the group is currently launching a major offensive to take full control of Kyaukphru Township.

In a statement released on May 22, the Arakan Army said that the remaining town-capturing operations in their final phase of war are being conducted in a restrained and strategic manner.

The AA emphasized that this is part of its broader objective: “to bring the entire Arakan region under the hands of the Arakanese people.”

Although the Arakan Army (AA) is launching a major offensive to seize control of Kyaukphyu town, military sources on the ground report that the AA is not using drones or heavy artillery. Instead, they are relying on infantry forces and tactical strategies to gain ground advantage and capture territory.

In contrast, the junta forces are reportedly using a combined defense involving army, navy, and air force support. They are heavily relying on airstrikes, naval shellings, and extensive deployment of advanced drones to resist the AA’s assault, according to the same ground sources.

In the final phase of the Arakan War, the Arakan Army (AA) has fully seized and established control over 15 townships, including Paletwa.

Additionally, the AA now has complete control over the Arakan-Magway, Arakan-Bago, and Arakan-Ayeyarwady border regions. It has also secured full control of both the Arakan-India and Arakan-Bangladesh border areas.
