A tragic boat accident occurred near Hatiya in Noakhali district when a vessel carrying 39 people capsized in the Meghna River, leaving four people dead and nine still missing. The victims include a Rohingya woman, according to local authorities and rescue officials.
The boat, which reportedly departed from Bhasan Char, was en route when it sank in the river under circumstances that are still under investigation. Emergency response teams quickly launched a rescue operation, managing to save 26 passengers.
Despite the successful rescue of more than half the occupants, nine individuals remain unaccounted for as search and rescue operations continue. The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially released.
Authorities are working to determine the cause of the incident, while families of the victims and missing passengers await updates. The tragedy highlights ongoing concerns over the safety of river transport in the region, especially for vulnerable communities.
