Junta Airstrikes in Thandwe Kill Four and Injure Ten Civilians

On June 7, at around 10 p.m., the junta carried out an airstrike on Thandwe Township, which is under the control of the Arakan Army. The attack killed four civilians and injured ten others.

In Kyaukgyi village, Sindin Gyi village tract of Thandwe Township, four internally displaced persons (IDPs) were killed in the airstrike: 12-year-old Ma April Moe, forty-year-old U Htun Htun Win, 43-year-old Daw Nhin Wai Khaing, and 48-year-old Daw Apu from Maung Shwe Lay village, who had also been taking shelter in Kyaukgyi.

The airstrike hit Kyaukgyi village, where four civilians taking shelter at the local school were killed, and eight residents of the village were injured.

Additionally, at around 10:15 p.m. on June 7, the junta’s air force also carried out an airstrike on the school in Puzunphay village, Thandwe Township, injuring two civilians.

On June 7 at 10:38 p.m., the junta’s air force conducted an airstrike on the former military recruitment office located between 6th and 7th Streets in Ward No. 8 of Thandwe town.

Due to the targeted airstrikes, both the Kyaukgyi and Puzunphay village schools, where civilians had been sheltering, were damaged. Many residential homes were also destroyed.

Thandwe Township has been under the full control of the Arakan Army since September 5 of last year.

Although the coup regime has announced a temporary ceasefire until the end of June, it continues to carry out airstrikes targeting civilians.
