A tragic incident occurred in Rohingya Camp-18 today, where a young child from a recently arrived Rohingya family lost their life in a CNG (auto-rickshaw) accident.
According to local sources, the child whose name and age has not yet been confirmed was struck by a CNG vehicle operating within the camp area. The accident reportedly took place in the afternoon while the child was walking near a road inside the camp.
Eyewitnesses say the CNG was traveling at high speed and failed to stop in time, hitting the child with force. The family, who had only recently fled conflict in Rakhine State, Myanmar, had arrived in Camp-18 seeking safety and support.
Community members rushed the child to a nearby health facility, but doctors pronounced the child dead upon arrival.
Camp residents have expressed concern about the increasing number of vehicles moving inside the camp, especially CNGs, and are calling for stricter safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for a family that had just escaped danger, only to face tragedy here,” said one community leader in Camp-18. “We urge authorities and humanitarian actors to regulate vehicle movement more strictly within the camp.”
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. An investigation is expected to follow.
The incident has sparked grief and fear among camp residents, particularly among families with young children, who fear similar accidents could occur if safety regulations are not enforced.
