“If they give us our documents, full citizenship, our freedom, and restore our land and property, then we can consider returning.”

Dr. Younes says that 180,000 Rohingyas must be returned to Myanmar. But what will happen after those 180,000? Will they keep sending more people back, one group after another? And will the UN sign an agreement with Myanmar without proper guarantees, forcing the Rohingyas to return?

We need strong guarantees that we can return safely, with proper security, and live freely in our homeland. A UN team must go with us. If they take us back and then shoot us, put us in crossfire, burn our houses, or force us to flee again, who will be responsible? There must be clear and solid guarantees for everything before any return.

What will happen to those families who are separated some members going back, others staying in Bangladesh? Even if some Rohingyas are willing to return, their brothers, sisters, or other family members may still be in Bangladesh. What happens to them? We cannot be separated again. We must go back together as one people.

If they give us our documents, full citizenship, our freedom, and restore our land and property, then we can consider returning. If they truly commit to doing everything for our rights, we will think about it and decide as a community.
