The Arakan Army (AA) announced on December 29 that around 700 junta troops, including Battalion 22 Commander Major Than Soe Win, were killed during the battles for the capture of Gwa Town.
During the battles in Gwa, around 1,200 junta troops fiercely resisted, and among them, several officers, including battalion commanders, were also reportedly killed.
The Arakan Army (AA) stated that the deaths of approximately 700 junta troops during the battles to capture Gwa Town were confirmed through evidence such as bodies found on the ground, testimonies from captured junta soldiers, and seized documents.
During the battles to capture Gwa Town, the junta forces resisted with ground troops, airstrikes, naval support, and more than ten armored vehicles. However, after two weeks of intense fighting, the Arakan Army (AA) successfully took control of the town.
In the Gwa battles, Battalion 11 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Than Soe Win led the defense, supported by strategic commanders Lieutenant Colonel Myo Nyunt Oo and Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Zin Htike, according to reports.
In addition to these battalions, reinforcements from the 66th Division’s 4th Light Infantry Battalion, as well as the 11th Division’s 214th, 215th, and 217th Light Infantry Battalions, were also deployed to support the defense efforts.
Additionally, the Arakan Army (AA) engaged forces under the Southwestern Military Command, including the 36th, 38th, and 93rd Infantry Battalions, as well as the 271st Infantry Battalion and the 308th Light Infantry Battalion, during the offensive.
The battles also resulted in the capture of some armored vehicles, military equipment, ammunition, and several junta soldiers, according to reports.
